The Rams defeated Florida International 5-2 Saturday to finish the year with a perfect regular-season record.
The 24 victories matched the 2003 women’s tennis squad that finished 24-1.
The Rams swept the doubles point, highlighted by the performance of the No.14-ranked pair of senior Olga Borisova (Minsk, Belarus) and sophomore Marianna Yuferova (St. Petersburg, Russia). The pair defeated the Golden Panthers’ No. 29-ranked pair of Paula Zabala and Nikkita Fountain, 8-4.
The Rams went on to take the top four singles matches.

Men’s tennis wins 12th straight

The men’s tennis team routed William and Mary 7-0 Saturday at the Thalhimer Tennis Center, finishing their season at 22-4.
The most dramatic moment of the match came from Petr Olsak’s (Novy Jicin, Czech Republic) comeback victory. After falling 1-6 in the first set, he won 6-4 and then 12-10 to seal the victory over the Tribe’s Stephen Ward.

Relay team golden at U. Va.

CHARLOTTESVILLE – Members of the men’s track team came home with first place in the 400-meter relay Saturday at the Abramson/Onesty Invitational hosted by the University of Virginia. The team posted a time of 41.66 seconds, their fastest time of the season.
Junior distance runner Lukasz Matusiewicz (Warsaw, Poland) finished third in the 800 with a time of 1:51.89. Junior Davion Lambert (Richmond/Varina High School) vaulted to a height of 6 feet, 8.75 inches to finish fourth in pole vault.
Junior sprinter James Frierson (Richmond/Highland Springs High School) posted his best time of the season in the 400 and Jay Wyss (Richmond/J.R. Tucker High School) turned in VCU’s second-fastest time of the season in the 1500.

Women’s track improves
Four members of the women’s track team improved upon their times Saturday at the Abramson/Onesty Invitational.
Sophomore Erica Banks (Hampton/Bethel High School) set a personal best in the 200; Danielle Williams (Virginia Beach/Salem High School) improved upon her 1500 time by five seconds. Courtney Green (Hanover/Caroline High School) and sophomore Lindsay Holman (Virginia Beach/ Salem High School) each improved their times in the 100 and 400 hurdles, respectively.
Two Rams had strong finishes in their respective events. Tanika Brown (Powhatan High School) finished as a runner up in the high jump with a mark of 5-9, and Senior Emily Thompson (Crozet/Western Albemarle High School) finished fourth in the 3000 steeplechase.

VCU golf finishes second
The men’s golf team finished 10 strokes behind winner Georgia State University to finish in second place after the final round of the CAA Championship Sunday.

The team posted the lowest score in the final round Sunday but could not gain on the Panthers, who began the day with a 23-stroke advantage.
