INDIANAPOLIS – The clock finally struck midnight for George Mason in the NCAA tournament.
The Patriots fell to Florida 73-58 on Saturday, sending to the Gators the their second championship game.
The Gators gained a 10-point lead in the first half before the Patriots rallied to cut it to 28-26.

The Gators gained a 10-point lead in the first half before the Patriots rallied to cut it to 28-26. But a 3-pointer before the half pushed the Gators’ lead to five.
Then Lee Humphrey stroked the Gators to a double-digit lead again, hitting three shots from behind the arc to open the second half as the team rolled to the title game.

Bruins send Tigers back to the bayou

INDIANAPOLIS – Louisiana State and Glen ‘Big Baby’ Davis had plenty of reasons to cry, falling 59-45 to the Bruins and ending their season one game before the championship.
UCLA puts its 12-game win streak on the line Monday night against the Gators.
After shutting down Davis, the Tigers’ best player, and the rest of the team was not able to get on track as the Bruins were able to build a 20-point lead in the second half.

OTHER NOTES

…Duke guard J.J. Redick, from Cave Spring, Va., was selected as The Associated Press Player of the Year, edging Gonzaga’s Adam Morrison in voting conducted by a 72-person panel. North Carolina coach Roy Williams was named coach of the year.

…UNC Wilmington coach Brad Brownell resigned Friday to take the same position at Wright State… Delaware hired Monte Ross, an assistant at Saint Joseph’s, as the Blue Hens’ new coach on Friday.
