LYNCHBURG, Va. – Verniece Johnson (Mineral/Louisa High School) finished first in the triple jump, and Brandy Butler (Charlottesville High School) placed second at the Liberty Record Bash Feb. 4.

Pia Ruth (Rahway, N.J.) was runner -up in the hurdles.
Men’s basketball is on the bubble
VCU men’s basketball sits in the 64th spot in the Rating Percentage Index, which is used by the NCAA to determine at-large bids to the “big dance.”
About half of the 65 teams earn at-large berths, while the other half are earned by winning the conference tournament. Other CAA and state teams in the top 100 include: George Mason (32); UNC Wilmington (43); Old Dominion (46); Virginia (56); Hofstra (59); and Northeastern (96).

Women’s tennis jumps in polls
The VCU women’s tennis team moved up 16 spots in the Intercollegiate Tennis Assoication rankings to No. 31 after claiming a 6-1 upset at then-17th ranked Clemson.
