AMHERST, Mass. – Virginia Commonwealth University’s Department of Athletics will be presented the inaugural College PRISM Award during halftime of the men’s basketball game against Old Dominion, Feb. 11. The award recognizes VCU’s athletic department for its professionalism, results and innovation in Sports Management.
Women’s tennis upsets Clemson
CLEMSON, S.C. – VCU’s women’s tennis team remained unbeaten with a 6-1 upset at No. 17 Clemson Saturday. Tatsiana Uvarova (Minsk, Belarus), Marianna Yuferova (St. Petersburg, Russia), Olga Borisova (Minsk, Belarus) and Vera Petrashevitch (St. Petersburg, Russia) claimed singles and doubles wins against the Tigers. Uvarova and Petrashevitch won their singles matches in straight sets, while Yuferova and Borisova prevailed in the third sets of their contests.
The Rams host conference rival Old Dominion on Sunday.
Men’s tennis controls Cornell
Arnaud Lecloerec (Plouhinec, France), Sebastian Ripoll (Mauleon-Soule, France) and Emil Lindgren (Stocksund, Sweden) won straight-set singles matches and claimed doubles victories en route to a 6-1 triumph over visiting Cornell.
The Rams hosted No. 8 Baylor Sunday where Lecloerec, Georges-Alexandre Israel (Marseille, France) and Ripoll registered victories against eighth-ranked Baylor but dropped the three other singles matches and the doubles portion of the team match.
Wake Forest comes to the Thalhimer Tennis Center on Friday.
