Aaron Page, philanthropy chairman, said they haven’t held this event for a couple of years and wanted to become more active.
He said participating in the event is a way to get the whole school involved.
“The holiday season is a time for giving,” Page said. “A lot of students are at a level that they should be able to give back. They should feel blessed enough to bless someone else with the Christmas spirit.”
Tommy Pruitt, sophomore theater performance major, not only donated money but also volunteered to collect toys and money.
He said extending a helping hand is a noble use of spare time.
Randal K. Hampton, lance corporal in the U.S. Marines Corps, said the Marine Corps have sponsored this event for many years.
“We want people to know the U.S. Marines care,” Hampton said.
Justin Greene, Theta Chi member, said this event is a good thing because not all children have the luxury of having toys or even clothes.
“Something as simple as a teddy bear can liven someone’s life,” Greene said.
Theta Chi collected money and toys for children up to age 16. The toys will be distributed to needy children with the help of the Marines and other organizations.
