Head basketball coach Jeff Capel came to terms with VCU on a deal that should keep him on the Rams’ sidelines through the 2009-2010 season.
He announced on April 8 that he would remain the Rams head coach despite being interviewed by Auburn and Miami.
The deal adds five years to the year remaining on Capel’s previous contract. The terms of the new agreement were undisclosed but will reportedly double the $130,000 Capel said he made in his first two seasons at with the Rams.
In those two seasons, Capel led VCU to a 41-18 record, including a CAA championship and an NCAA tournament appearance in March.
Women’s soccer highlights all-state first team
The Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) named seniors Pru Cormie and Leah Robinson and junior Jen Parsons to its Virginia University Division all-state team. All three players have received the honor before.
Robinson, the Ram’s co-captain, finished with 20 assists, second on VCU’s all-time list en route to her fourth straight all-state appearance. She was a named to the second team in her first two seasons before making the first team last year.
Parsons, the 2003 CAA player of the year, set VCU records with 43 goals and 94 points in her career.
Cormie was named to the first team for the third consecutive year after leading a defense that posted six shutouts in 2003.
