Morely pitches Deacons past Rams

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Tim Morely scattered two hits in eight innings, and first baseman Brad Scioletti drove in three runs as the Wake Forest (16-24) beat Virginia Commonwealth (28-11) 7-1 Tuesday night at Hooks Stadium. Morely took a one-hit shutout into the top of the sixth before senior third baseman Anthony Granato scored on a groundball off the bat of designated hitter Jeff Parrish.

Morely took a one-hit shutout into the top of the sixth before senior third baseman Anthony Granato scored on a groundball off the bat of designated hitter Jeff Parrish. Granato reached on a walk, advanced to second on a passed ball and stole third for his 36th swipe of the season before crossing the plate.

Granato’s singling in the first and Trai Harris’ double in the fourth accounted for the Rams’ two hits.

Brandan Moore made an early exit, giving up three runs on four hits in just 2.2 innings. Cla Meredith threw three shutout innings, striking out four batters and cleaning up for Jason Wawrzyniak, who gave up four runs on five hits in 2.1 innings.

Delaware 7, Wilmington College 5: Junior Dave Harden’s bases-clearing double in the bottom of the eighth inning pushed the rallying Blue Hens to stun the Wildcats. Delaware (21-16) rallied from a 5-0 deficit and scored all seven of their runs in the bottom of the eighth to pick up its eighth win the past games.

Marist 16, Hofstra 14: Andy Kiriakedes went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs and a double and teammate Kevin Buck went 3-for-5 for the Red Foxes with a double, as they out-slugged the visiting Pride. Josh Stern was 4-for-5 with five RBI and two home runs for Hofstra, which has lost its past four games

Maryland 2, James Madison 1: Bobby Ryan singled to drive in Truan Mehl for an unearned run in the bottom of the ninth inning, lifting the Terrapins to a 2-1 non-conference victory over the Dukes. Greg Nesbitt threw 5.1 shutout innings, striking out five batters.

George Mason 17, Georgetown 3: Josh Morrison threw five shutout innings, and Nick Shimer was 2 for 2 two-run home run, an RBI double, two walks – one with the bases loaded – as the Patriots pounded the homestanding Hoyas. Shimer and teammate Jeff Palumbo each extended their hitting streaks to 13 games.
