Subwoofers and hearing loss mixed with a pleasant bit of pi

0

Dear Bob, I’ve got another question for you. Are you familiar with subwoofers? If so, would you know if there are any consequences to exposing oneself to the loud bass that emanates from them? Can significant damage be made to the passerby or listener? Also, is aforementioned damage not limited to hearing loss? Particularly, I am interested in the effects, if any, a large speaker (generally 10 or 12 inches), and the booming sound which it produces, can indeed penetrate the skull and membranes and muscles covering the brain and destroy precious, irreplaceable brain cells, thus impairing a college student from performing well on upcoming exams.

Dear Bob,

I am aware that you are not a physician, as you do not require us to call you Dr. Bob, but the ad says you answer all and know all, so I’m sure you have the skills and knowledge to answer such an inquiry and in doing so, calm the nerves of a OCD-afflicted individual such as myself.

Thanks for the efforts and take care. With much gratitude and respect,

Jimmy Boombada

I am quite familiar with subwoofers. Our lovely neighbors here in the WB (West Broad Apartments) like to play them at all hours of the morning, causing my desk to vibrate and rattle. I am also familir with their ability to shake the rooms of the offending neighbors when combined with lots of thumpy industrial music.

I am sure there are long-term consequences to exposing yourself to loud bass for prolonged periods of time. How many 40-year-old rappers do you see?

The effects could range from hearing loss to ringing in the ears to a host of other problems relating to the head and ears. I do not know all of them, but if you consult your doctor or the good people over at student health, they will be more than happy tohelp you out.

As for your ability to perform well on exams, that I cannot say. In the long run, it may damage your brain, but not to the degree that you should do poorly on tests, though, it is never a bad idea to ask a doctor if you are really concerned about it.

However, in the meantime, enjoy your music and let it thump and boom and blast. Music is music and it should be heard and enjoyed.

Thank you for supplying me with questions, as you have for the past few weeks. I am glad you’ve returned to writing.

You have written in more than I Love Bob, who seems to have found another lover. Even the fine young woman who invited me to a party. She has not written since.

You are a prolific writer and I grovel before you, as you help to keep me in business. If no one writes, then I cannot answer.

Thank you Jimmy for keeping me in work. Your payment is behind the third toilet in the bathroom across from the billboard on the 3rd floor. You know where.
