Junior guard Melvin Johnson’s 23 points and sophomore guard Doug Brooks helped VCU eliminate the University of Richmond from the Atlantic 10 quarterfinals. The final score was 70-67, VCU victory.
VCU men’s basketball now knows their opponent in the second round of the Atlantic 10 conference tournament after Fordham University defeated George Mason University, 71-65.
Team IMPACT, a non-profit organization whose mission is to help improve the quality of life for children battling life threatening and chronic illnesses, partnered up with VCU to announce an inspirational signing by the VCU Men’s basketball program.
In his first press conference of the season, men’s basketball head coach Shaka Smart addressed the media, answering questions about the hype surrounding the 2014-15 campaign. Most importantly, Smart spoke about three uncertainties entering the season: senior leadership, player improvement on both sides of the ball and how his freshman fit into the equation early on.
