Two VCU students reported to police that a group of people assaulted and robbed them just off campus last night, on the 800 block of North Harrison Street.

Three people were arrested in connection with the incident later last night, according to sources, but the VCU Police Department chose not to send out an alert message to the student body.

“VCU Police in collaboration with senior management did not issue a crime alert last night regarding the robbery that was reported to the Richmond Police Department and which took place at 810 N. Harrison because there was no immediate or ongoing threat to any VCU student,” said VCU PD spokesperson Michael Kelly said in an email sent tonight.

The case was referred to the Richmond Police Department, which is still seeking two other suspects.

This is the 18th theft and second assault in the Carver neighborhood this month, according to Richmond Police Department statistics.
