Women’s basketball bounces back with road win

Staff Reports

After suffering a minor setback to Charlotte at home, the VCU women’s basketball team (3-2) bounced back Sunday afternoon with a 69-52 win over Winthrop.

Following a record-breaking 40-point performance against UMKC last week, senior forward Courtney Hurt busted off a double-double with 28 points and 16 rebounds to lead all scorers.

Her one-two punch partner Andre Barbour chipped in in a big way with 17 points and six rebounds to lead the Rams’ backcourt.

Coming off the bench, sophomore Robyn Parks made her presence felt. Parks added 15 points, two assists and six rebounds, which helped in a big way for VCU.

The Rams have a big challenge ahead of them as they face cross-town rival Richmond Thursday night.

After spending their first three out of five games on the road, the VCU women's basketball team will enjoy the next four out of five games in the friendly confines of the Siegel Center.
