Kita Waller (Gainesville, Ga./Gainesville) led VCU Sunday with 23 points past arch rival Old Dominion in Norfolk, 75-56. The win gave each VCU basketball team a victory over the Monarchs this past weekend.

The win is just VCU’s third since the 1992-1993 season against the Monarchs and the second in a row after the Rams had gone winless in 13 tries.

ODU came out of the gates hot, gaining a 15-9 lead early. However, VCU was able to trim the lead and eventually took the lead at the half, 33-26.

The Rams would never trail from there and used hot shooting to pull away from their long-time rival.

VCU would eventually win in convincing fashion, 75-56.

To go with Waller’s 23, D’Andra Moss (Atlanta, Ga/Norcross) poured in 20 and Courtney Hurt (Conyers, Ga./Salem) added a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds.

The game was also a milestone game as both Waller and Moss joined VCU’s 1,000-point club.

The Rams shot 49 percent for the game and forced 19 ODU turnovers.

Jasmine Parker and Kquanise Byrd led the Monarchs with 12 points apiece.

Now tied for first in the CAA, VCU plays at Hofstra on Thursday and returns to the Stuart C. Siegel Center on Sunday at 2 p.m. against Drexel.
