Fuller’s trial date moved to Sept. 10
Former VCU Police Chief William “Willie” Fuller’s trial has been pushed back to Sept. 10 because of health concerns. When a neighbor found Fuller outside his apartment in early June, he was suffering from a diabetes-related medical emergency.
As of late June, Fuller was still receiving care at VCU Medical Center.
Arnold Henderson, Fuller’s attorney, did not respond to phone calls inquiring about Fuller’s current medical status.
According to Malorie Janis, a public relations specialist for VCU, Fuller’s name can no longer be located in the VCU Medical Center directory, but this does not necessarily mean that he is no longer in their care.
Fuller was arrested Jan. 28 while he was still VCU’s acting police chief. Chesterfield police allege Fuller engaged in a chat room conversation with an undercover police officer posing as a 14-year-old girl. Fuller allegedly used the screen name “Hotcop2006” in an attempt to solicit pictures of the girl’s genitals.
He faces three felony charges: one for attempted indecent liberties with a minor and two for the use of an electronic device to solicit sex from a minor.
Style Weekly reported in February that VCU investigated complaints against Fuller in 2005. The story alleged Fuller had a sexually explicit electronic correspondence with a girl who claimed to be 17 years old.
Pamela Lepley, director of university relations and public relations, said VCU has “never acknowledged any such (investigation) file,” and all electronic files have been turned in to the Chesterfield Commonwealth’s Attorney.
Carlton Edward is the acting interim police chief while a search for a permanent replacement continues.
