Continued dominance over Richmond by winning their 10th consecutive game over the Spiders. The Rams were led by a five run seventh inning that included a two run single by Doug Otto (Jefferson City, Mo./ Helias). Then the Rams shifted to the weekend starting a three game set with nationally ranked George Mason.

Then the Rams shifted to the weekend starting a three game set with nationally ranked George Mason. In Friday’s game, the Rams used a breakout performance by sophomore pitcher Ian Thomas (Virginia Beach/Kellam) to upset the Patriots 4-3. Thomas went 8 1/3 innings only giving up nine hits and striking out seven. On Saturday, the Patriots proved too much for the Rams, beating VCU 8-2. After the three games, VCU held a record of 18-13 coming into the third game of the series against George Mason.

Men’s Tennis

Beat Georgia State 4-0 on Thursday and William and Mary 4-3 to advance to their 13th CAA finals since joining the league in 1996. They faced off with UNC Wilmington on Sunday in the championship match.

Nicolas Vinel (Metz, France) was named the CAA Rookie of the Year. Thibaut Charron (Sens, France) and Martin Schulhauser (Karvina, Czech Republic) were also named first team All-CAA.

Women’s Tennis

Beat Drexel 4-0 on Friday and William and Mary on Saturday, 4-1 to advance to the final on Sunday against top-seeded Georgia State.

Kateryna Yergina (Kiev, Ukraine) was named first team All-CAA. Alex Bara (Oradera, Romania), Laura Burns (Hereford, England) and Olena Leonchuk (Kiev, Ukraine) were named to the second team.
