The VCU Women’s Soccer team is hosting the fifth annual “Make It Happen” 5K Sunday, April 19. The event will take place at Byrd Park. Registration starts at 12 p.m. and the race begins at 1 p.m.

The annual event is held in honor of Nicole Megaloudis, a former VCU student and women’s soccer team member, who died February 9, 2004. The event will benefit the Nicole Megaloudis Foundation, a non-profit organization.

“Really I think it’s just a great way to get the community together and involved, being active and then obviously remembering Nicole is huge since she is a part of the VCU family,” said VCU women’s soccer co-head coach Tiffany Roberts. “Its a great event that has really brought our team together.”

According to the foundation’s Web site, the foundation was established to assist students who demonstrate leadership qualities and hope to attend college. The event will benefit the foundation and requires a $10 donation for students and a $25 donation for non-students to participate in the run.

Roberts said while last year’s turn out was not as good as the team hoped, this year they expect a larger crowd.

“I think the girls worked really hard to get the word out,” Roberts said. “A hundred (participants) would be great. I believe there are going to be a couple different categories of running and then the winners of each category will receive a prize, but then there are going to be a ton of raffle prizes.”

Prizes will be awarded for each age group along with a raffle at the end of the run.
