Letter to the Editor
Dear Editor,
Earlier this year, President Barack Obama made history when he took the oath of office. This summer, Michael Rao will become the new president of our beloved VCU when he comes here in July from Central Michigan University.
In these times of change, one thing has become clear to me: We need Joshua Ronk as our next student body president!
Having seen Joshua and his all-star teammates Josie Mace and Jenny You in action over the years, I can faithfully attest to his ticket’s maturity and intellect.
It’s vitally important to the future and effectiveness of our Student Government Association that we elect this Ronk-Mace-You ticket. And because voting ends at the stroke of midnight on Thursday, I know that Joshua needs all the help he can get!
Whether it is fighting for enhanced transparency in financial matters, better engagement of socially active students like yourselves, or advocating the passage of a new-and-improved SGA constitution that will annually cut $10,000 in spending, I know we can count on Ronk-Mace-You to get the job done. Joshua supports a smaller, more efficient SGA that will have a positive impact on people’s lives.
So, let’s rev up our common sense and creative engines and elect Joshua Ronk as our student body president for next school year! Joshua has included a link to the ballot at his Web page, www.studentsforaction.com.
Sincerely,
Steven C. Latimer
Dear Editor,
The Sunday after Valentine’s Day, my friend Sean McKay showed how easy it is to die, and his family and I started experiencing how hard it is to be left behind.? I don’t expect to get used to it, but he wasn’t my family-and unlike his wife and kids, I don’t have to move.
From what I’ve heard, Sean spent his life with a smile on his face, not just the four years I knew him.? For myself, I witnessed Sean create a lot of good comedy, first in the Star Wars role-playing game he ran, then in the RPG games his wife ran.? He always encouraged the rest of us to join in-the more, the merrier.?
I know he worked hard at the game, as I’ve seen his notes, and I’ve seen him smiling through frustration as he tried to think of ways to challenge a group of ingenious players, who had the advantage of working together.?Sean worked hard, but he worked to live, and he lived to bring smiles to the people around him, whether it was his wife and two children or us friends whom they hosted on weekends.
The house they’ve rented for ten years has just been condemned. They are only allowed into the homes between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. to gather belongings.?They have only until the end of the month to move everything.?
This Saturday, both families need all the help they can get.?They probably have use of a moving truck, so mostly what they need is help moving boxes.? If it’s not raining, there will be boxes in the yards, and there should be a truck.
I know this is not an official club, fraternity or sorority activity for which your national organization will credit you, but if you have the time to help out, please contact me, Bill Lemmond, the silly cartoonist.
