You can call Dallas’ Monday-night win over Philadelphia a lot of things: A great comeback, the most watched television program in cable history or a shootout. But, I prefer to call it for what it was: A choke job by Donovan McNabb and the Eagles. Sure, Philadelphia’s six-point halftime lead wasn’t much-but after outscoring Dallas by two touchdowns in the second quarter, its second-half performance was a complete letdown.

McNabb performed like he was a Hall of Famer in the first half, but when his heroics were most needed, his passes fell short. Maybe I shouldn’t put the blame squarely on McNabb’s shoulders, because after all, Philadelphia’s offensive line and play calling didn’t look much better in the game’s final moments. McNabb suddenly didn’t have all day to throw the ball when he needed it and the call for a hook and ladder on the sideline was strange as well. However, in big games it’s up to the team leader to make things happen. When the Colts need a big play, the ball is in Peyton Manning’s hands. The same can be said about pre-injury Tom Brady and the Patriots. McNabb needs to be able to handle the same pressure if the Eagles want to succeed this season.

There are a lot of things that I could say about the Milwaukee Brewers, but I think I can sum it up in one word: Idiots. The upper management of the franchise decided to fire manager Ned Yost because of the team’s slacking performance down the stretch. Really? The Milwaukee Brewers aren’t exactly the New York Yankees. The franchise hasn’t been in the playoffs since Ronald Reagan was in office, and you’re going to have the guts to fire a guy who’s at least putting the team in contention? My plea to Mr. Yost: Come back to Atlanta, be the third base coach and take over when Bobby Cox eventually retires. That way, when the Brewers are back in the basement where they belong, you can be with a team that appreciates winning.
