DU adds classroom locks to help fend off shooters
The University of Denver has installed latches on the doors to nearly every classroom so they can be quickly locked from the inside in the event of a campus shooting.

The University of Denver has installed latches on the doors to nearly every classroom so they can be quickly locked from the inside in the event of a campus shooting.
Don Enloe, director of campus safety, said Tuesday the latches were installed over the summer.
Enloe says recent campus shootings showed it was too easy for a shooter to go from classroom to classroom. He says the latches do not guarantee safety but would make it harder for an intruder to get in.
Gunmen killed 32 people at Virginia Tech in April 2007 and five people at Northern Illinois University in February of this year. Both gunmen committed suicide.
