Is anyone else happy we are getting closer to the playoffs with less and less talk about the Yankees and the Red Sox? While both teams have huge fan bases and an even larger following based on hate, I find it good to have some new teams in the mix. It’s fun to watch a dominate team, but I find it even more entertaining to watch traditional powers bow to building ones.

It’s fun to watch a dominate team, but I find it even more entertaining to watch traditional powers bow to building ones. However, I do hope the owner and general manager of Tampa Bay doesn’t pull the same shenanigans that were pulled on the Florida Marlins after their 1997 World Series title. It would be sad to watch a team spend years becoming a contender just to watch them all sold off in a fire sale.

Let’s face it, there are only two types of people that truly are upset by Tom Brady’s season-ending knee injury-Patriots fans and Brady fantasy owners. I am neither, and I feel OK about that. Injuries happen all the time. Players get hurt, get better and then come back. Brady is a great player, but the press surrounding his injury is getting ridiculous. He’s hurt; he’s out for the year-let’s get past it. Who cares if exact details haven’t been released by the New England coaching staff? Brady’s out for the year-there’s nothing else to know. If there is an injury deserving attention, it’s the one suffered by San Diego linebacker Sean Merriman, who avoided preseason surgery in order to play. Had Merriman gone ahead and had the surgery before the season, there’s a possibility he could have avoided further injury. That is more newsworthy.
ON ANOTHER NOTE
As Thursday is the seventh anniversary of the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, take some time this weekend to remember the events. While football and baseball are being played, remember less than a decade ago, these events were canceled for a period of mourning. Be thankful we are able to continue in our everyday lives.
