Couple locks their adopted kids in the basement

A couple in Colorado Springs, Colo., was charged with child abuse and false imprisonment – along with several other misdemeanor charges – for allegedly locking their six children in the basement of their home at night. Police started investigating Samia Fam, 47, and William Fam, 59, Nov. 16 when a school official reported seeing scratches and bruises on the couple’s 14-year-old son. The couple also has five other children, ranging from 7- to 16 years old, whom are all believed to be foster children who were adopted by the Fams, police said. Police interviews with the children revealed that both the mother and father would “place the children in the locked basement, and the only way out was when the door was unlocked by the parents.” The children said that they had been living in the basement at night for several months. Authorities said that “the children told the police that their parents locked them up to keep them from taking food or running away.” The Fams are scheduled to make their first appearance in El Paso County Court on Jan. 2.

Man blames child molestation charges on his wife’s bingo habit

A former Wind Gap, Pa., man pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated indecent assault for molesting two girls, ages 12- and 15 years old, starting in 1992 through 2006. When interviewed by authorities, Floyd Kinney Jr., 49, admitted that what he had done was wrong but blamed his wife’s bingo habit. Because she “was never home,” Kinney began molesting children as a way to “lash out” at her. Further charges of rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, sexual assault and several other related counts were dropped. Kinney is set to be sentenced March 1 and is ordered to have a sexual offender evaluation.

Baby spas want to unwind your infants

Spa treatments aren’t only for adults anymore, as the $11 billion a year industry has sprouted hundreds of baby spas across the country. For stressed out babies tired from the everyday tribulations of infant life, moms and dads can now take their babies to these special spas. The spas feature “over 25 different services,” including “baby massage, baby yoga, baby sign language, brain awakening through classical music (and) baby chakra chi.” “It’s aligning the baby’s chakras through warm towels,” said Jonathan Baker, the owner of Skin Spa Baby in Encino, Calif. Another spa, Play 2 Grow in Atlanta, Ga., provides canola oil for mothers to rub into their babies’ skin, while a string quartet’s music plays in the background “under a canopy of tiny blinking lights.” Other sensory activities that Play 2 Grow features are rolling the babies around in warm spaghetti and baby exercises.
