No pain, no gain.in brain cells

Recent research done at Yale University in Connecticut reveals that while too little testosterone is not a good thing, too much of it can kill brain cells. Barbara Ehrlich of Yale, who led the study, said that tests on brain cells in lab dishes showed that the presence of too much testosterone causes “cells to self-destruct” in a similar process to that of Alzheimer’s.

On the other hand, tests on the “female” hormone estrogen revealed its protective qualities, actually resulting in less cell death overall. Ehrlich also said that this could explain why people on high levels of steroids start to suffer from “behavioral changes,” as their nerve cells start to die.

Camera-happy burglar forgets camera at crime scene

In Fort Mitchell, Ky., police arrested Rodney McMillen, 36, over the weekend after they found a videotape depicting him attempting to burglarize a woman’s apartment wearing nothing but a thong and wielding a knife. Investigators had found a video camera, which McMillen had accidentally left in the woman’s apartment, and were able to identify him from video footage of his family on the end of the tape. McMillen currently is being held in the Hamilton County Justice Center in Cincinnati, Ohio, on $50,000 bond.

Man gets stiffed by penile implant settlement

A man in Providence, R.I., who won a lawsuit resulting in more than $400,000 over a malfunctioning penile implant, may not see any of the money after a judge dismissed his claim on Monday. The man, Charles Lennon, who claimed that the implant caused him to have an erection for 10 years, is now in a stitch after receiving word that Superior Court Judge Edward C. Clifton had granted a request by the implant manufacturer’s insurer to dismiss Lennon’s claims, which would have amounted to $1 million, including interest.

Barbie ain’t got nothin’ on Trailer Trash Dolls

Set to launch Oct. 10, toymakers Arsenic and Apple Pie have created a doll that will kick Barbie’s classy butt. In addition to their Trailer Trash Doll series, which already includes the curler-clad Turleen, a cigarette-smoking pregnant doll, Arsenic and Apple Pie are now adding the mullet-coiffed Jerwayne Jr., a beer-swigging, toothless wonder that will say “Fifteen of them beers and yer still ugly,” along with four other equally amusing catch phrases. The doll, which Arsenic and Apple Pie explain as “having a laugh at stereotypical American images,” is also complete with farting sounds.

Dog leash fails to withhold dog but severs woman’s fingers

In Tokyo earlier this week, a 95-year-old woman lost four of her fingers when the dog leash that she was holding onto got caught in a moving elevator. According to Tokyo police, the woman, who was taking the elevator up to her 10th floor apartment with the dog, was suddenly halted when the dog walked out of the elevator with another man getting out on the eighth floor. Though the woman tried to pull the dog back in, the elevator door closed and started to move up, which resulted in the leash getting caught and severing four of her fingers. The dog, however, managed to slip out of his collar and was left uninjured.
