HARRISONBURG – VCU lost its fourth straight match to James Madison 2-3 Sunday, but won Wednesday’s game against William & Mary 3-1, putting them at 3-4 in the Colonial Athletic Association and 7-7 overall.

In Wednesday’s game, VCU hit for a total of .203, with de Borja contributing .259 to the team’s percentage, and adding 22 kills to the victory effort.

Ludmila Francescatto (Fraiburga, Brazil) gave the team 23 defensive digs.

After losing the first game 25-30, VCU came back with three wins in a row for the victory. The first win came with 30-21, then two close games at 30-27 and 30-26.

Golf

RUTHER GLEN – Penn State University and University of Louisville tied for first place with 13-under at the VCU/Mattaponi Springs Intercollegiate shootout.

VCU came in at 11th place with 19 over par.

Senior Daryl Chappell (Richmond/Dinwiddle HS) was tied with a birdie for 15th place with Drew Allenspach from Indiana University.

Rafael Campos (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) tied for 20th at a double-bogie with Andy Connell from Xavier University.

Men’s soccer

RICHMOND – The Rams split their first pair of CAA matches over the weekend, first beating UNC Wilmington on Friday 1-0, then losing to Georgia State 2-3 Sunday.

The season record for the men’s soccer team is now 3-6.

VCU kicked nine corner kicks to Georgia State’s one, and Georgia State had 19 fouls to VCU’s 12.

Women’s soccer

ATLANTA, Ga. – VCU’s women’s soccer team beat Georgia State 3-2 Sunday, as they outnumbered the Panthers in shots 17-7, shots on goal 10-4, and goals.

VCU’s points were all scored consecutively, starting in the 18th minute of play, with Stephanie Power’s (Darmouth, Nova Scotia) unassisted goal.

She then assisted Karin Tersteeg (Diepenveen, Netherlands) 11 minutes later from the right line, as Tersteeg tapped it in.

VCU’s game-winning point came when Laure Dupont (Plessis Robinson, France) picked up Hayley Moorwood’s (Auckland, New Zealand) assist in the 52nd minute.
