VCU offense falls short vs. Tigers

TOWSON, Md. – VCU’s defense was unable to stop Towson forward Dennard Abraham as he poured in 27 points to lead the Tigers to a victory over the Rams for the first time in the teams’ past 11 matchups.

The Rams managed to overcome a first half in which the offense struggled as well, shooting only 25 percent from the floor and scoring only one field goal over the 12 and a half minutes heading into halftime.

The Rams managed to overcome a first half in which the offense struggled as well, shooting only 25 percent from the floor and scoring only one field goal over the 12 and a half minutes heading into halftime.

Despite the first half, the Rams used an 11-2 run to pull within two with just over 6 minutes left.

The Tigers pulled away temporarily, pushing their lead to nine with 2:30 left, but Nick George (Manchester, England), B.A. Walker (Onancock/Nandua High School) and Jamal Shuler (Jacksonville, N.C.) cut the score to 55-54 with 1:09 remaining.

The Tigers, who shot 91.7 percent from the line, put the game out of reach when they hit four straight free throws. Walker hit a 3-pointer with 1.6 seconds left to bring the score to its final margin.

Jesse Pellot-Rosa (Richmond/ George Wythe High School) scored a team high 12 points for the Rams and was the only VCU player to score in double figures.
