Six straight wins, six straight shutouts

The VCU women’s soccer team controlled every aspect of Friday night’s 4-0 win over Longwood College. It was the Rams sixth straight win in which they haven’t allowed a goal.

Striker Solfrid Andersen scored her team-leading 11th goal of the season in the 14th minute of the game. Forward Jen Parsons scored two goals of her own, leaving her with 11 as well.

The Rams dominated on offense, recording 11 shots in the first half. Andersen’s goal from seven yards out came from an assist by midfielder Kasey Sandvig.

Parsons booted in a cross from Hedda Gardsjord in the 55th minute to start the scoring in the second half. Balanced midfielder Sandra Anger scored on a penalty kick in the 65th minute, and the rout was secured.

Parsons final goal came off of another tightly placed cross, this time from senior forward Katie MacDougall. Parsons took the pass and put it past Longwood’s Heather Storrie from 12 yards out.

The Rams’ defense didn’t allow a shot on goal, and limited the Lancers to just only one shot all game. Freshman goalkeepers Lauren Hardison and Emily Niman completed another shutout for the Rams without having to make any saves.

With another win under its belt, the balanced VCU women’s soccer team has a dangerous weekend coming up. On Friday night, the Rams travel to Delaware, where the Blue Hens are 2-1-1 this season.

Two days later the Rams have a gigantic midseason test at Towson. The Tigers are 2-1-1 in CAA play, two points behind the Rams in the standings.

In a surprise upset over the weekend, Old Dominion toughed out William & Mary in a 2-1 overtime win on the road. The winning goal came on a controversial penalty kick in the 96th minute.

The Monarchs, with a record of 3-1-1, took over sole possession of first place in the CAA, leading VCU by one point.
