Career center helps students plan their futures
If you’re soon entering the job market or are graduating this December, it may be time for you to visit the University Career Center. Perhaps you plan to attend law school after graduation, or maybe you want to find an internship. The center could help you with that, too.
If you’re soon entering the job market or are graduating this December, it may be time for you to visit the University Career Center. Perhaps you plan to attend law school after graduation, or maybe you want to find an internship. The center could help you with that, too.
But what if you are one of the many students who are unsure of what they want to do in the future? Even then, the Career Center could help you look at the choices available – and maybe, just maybe, you would see something you really liked.
“We will assist all VCU students with their career development,” said Sue Story, the center’s director, listing her first goal for the center this semester. “We will teach them how to develop their careers, how to make job choices, how to gain work experience.”
Story, appointed director in July, discussed her second goal for the center, saying it has to be a resource to the faculty as they prepare students for the working world.
Her final goal for the Career Center this semester?
“To provide area employers with excellent students,” she said.
The center helps many students by sponsoring a Career Fair every semester, giving them and employers an opportunity to meet. It also offers help to students on an individual level.
As far as career development, students may set up an appointment with a career adviser for help with long-term planning. The center also provides assistance in learning the practical aspects of starting a career, such as interviewing skills and r
