Vegans Lyz Holder knows
Some vegans have left a bad taste in Lyz Holder’s mouth. That’s not suprising considering the number of fresh-from-their-parents’-house vegans, idealistic and dogmatic from the start, but 10 years from now she’ll have forgotten all about them. And they’ll most likely have forgotten about being vegan.
I, for one, have been vegan for a decade and have watched the most confrontational vegans go from cheese-dissing to 7-Eleven Big Bite-eating in a matter of years. It’s usually the quiet ones who keep their politics to themselves and surpass the “honeymoon period” when it’s no longer “hip” to be a constant pain when your friends all want to eat dinner at a steakhouse.
Moving on….
Holder doesn’t believe a vegan diet can be healthy. Soy protein may not have the same muscle-building tendencies as its dairy brethren, but it sure isn’t unhealthy.
As to children raised by vegan parents … parents have to be responsible, no? Most parents I know take extra care to feed their children hyper-healthy meals and babies can’t digest dairy products, anyway. Lactose intolenance is overcome with years of ingesting dairy products, so it’s actually unhealthy to force feed a child a cup of milk. They have a tendency to barf it up, too, discounting its “benefits.”
One other thing. Why is Holder concerned with my health? I’d whip her high cholesterol count any day.
And another thing. To everyone on the staff: Keep up the good work. The papert looks better than it ever did.
