Women’s soccer warms up for season opener

Georgetown University’s women’s soccer team sneaked two extra goals past the Rams’ netminder to win 4-2 at Thursday night’s exhibition game at the Sports Backers Stadium.The Rams started the game strong with a 1-0 lead in the first period when junior Jen Parsons connected with a feed by senior Genevieve Tremblay.

Georgetown University’s women’s soccer team sneaked two extra goals past the Rams’ netminder to win 4-2 at Thursday night’s exhibition game at the Sports Backers Stadium.

The Rams started the game strong with a 1-0 lead in the first period when junior Jen Parsons connected with a feed by senior Genevieve Tremblay.

The Hoyas evened the score late in the period when senior Jesse Beers-Altman scored from a rebound shot originating from sophomore teammate Shara McNeill.

During the second period the Hoyas goaltender took down sophomore Sandra Anger, allowing VCU a penalty kick. Senior Leah Robinson used the opportunity to kick one past Georgetown, and take control of the game with a 2-1 lead.

Georgetown then evened the score in the 62nd minute of game play when freshman Chrissy Skogen scored off a cross by senior Courtney Shaub. They went on to take a 3-2 lead when sophomore McNeill beat the Rams’ goaltender Miranda Northcutt.

With only 4:18 remaining in the game the Hoyas widened their lead. McNeill headed a corner kick home and won the game with a 4-2 lead over the Rams.

VCU’s season opener versus the Richmond Spiders will be played 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30 at the Sports Backers Stadium.
