Child’s Play

In an interview, a reporter asked Quvenzhané Wallis, leading actress in Annie, “Did you ever watch Annie when you were a little girl?” to which she replied, “I’m still a little girl.” Black children aren’t seen as just children in our societies; often times they are forced to assume the role of an adult even when they are clearly little kids, or thought to be much older than they are. For instance, when Tamir Rice was murdered, the cops identified him as a 12-year-old man. In a racist society, logic takes a back seat to prejudice. Let black kids be kids.
