At least two days a week The Virginia Flaggers can be seen in front of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts parading Confederate flags while they are ignored by passerbys. The Virginia Flaggers have been attempting to preserve Confederate history by “flagging” locations which they believe have “attacked (their) flags, heritage, and ancestors.” The most frequently protested place by this group is the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts because it took down Confederate flags from the Confederate memorial chapel that is on its property.

Rams basketball trains with SEALs
For the fourth straight offseason under head coach Shaka Smart, the men’s basketball team participated in the Navy SEALs training program led by head instructor John McGuire. In addition to men’s basketball, McGuire’s program welcomed other VCU teams into the fold: men’s and women’s soccer, women’s volleyball and women’s basketball.
Ball, Harm win consecutive A-10 honors
The VCU men’s golf team competed in the Tar Heel Intercollegiate Sept. 12-14, at the UNC Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Of the 18 teams to compete on the 54-hole course, the Rams finished ninth with a team score of 869.
After first win, field hockey struggles for next
VCU’s field hockey team returned home after a five-game road trip, losing their home opener at Cary Street Field to cross-town rivals University of Richmond on Sept. 19. The loss is the Rams’ fourth straight and drops the team’s overall record to 1-5 on the season.
