End OF AN ERA
And so, after a year of writing and editing for the Commonwealth Times, my time has come to an end.
And so, after a year of writing and editing for the Commonwealth Times, my time has come to an end.
None of this would have been possible without Shelby Mertens, former spectrum editor, handing me my first writing assignment. Next came Mark Robinson, former executive editor who trusted me to fill Shelby’s shoes. Cyrus Nuval encouraged me to believe in my section, even when the weekly meetings mostly consisted of me waiting for no one to come. Meagan Dermody, Michael Pasco and Henry Lutz were always there to help me find the invisible mistakes. The Student Media Center design team went above and beyond to make my pages look amazing. My fellow writers and editors made every Friday and Saturday night an adventure. The people who grabbed a copy of the newspaper when I was handing them out in the heat or the cold made my life much easier. Student Media Director Greg Weatherford helped me figure out who I was as a writer, and Production Manager Mark Jeffries helped me figure out who the readers were. My contributing writers really kept me sane when exams, work and life all happened at the same time. Mrs. Betti Lavos, my friend and coworker, I would like to thank most for being the only person who made me bring every issue to her. I promise I won’t forget to grab this one.
You all pushed me to become a better writer and editor, and to create something I can truly take pride in.
Thank you.
