VCU undergraduates in film and photography will exhibit their work at a student-run one-day gallery called “Other Realms” on Oct. 10.
The gallery is the brainchild of VCU film majors Elizabeth Williams and Jessica Royce, who are independently hosting the event.
“We had this idea that we wanted to get as much work together from the photo and film undergraduates,” Williams said. “We feel that we haven’t worked together a lot in the past since the departments are separate.”
Williams and Royce have held events outside of class for the film department in past semesters, but they plan for “Other Realms” to be their largest event to date since photo students are also a part of the exhibit. About 15 VCU students will be exhibited in this event.
“We don’t really have classes with the photo kids so we just wanted to bring about some unity,” Williams said.
The “Other Realms” gallery will also be a Halloween party. Works being shown at the gallery are going to be of darker content to fit the Halloween theme. Those who attend the event should expect ironic Halloween decorations and craft stations. Williams and Royce said they plan to screen “Hocus Pocus” in one room to go with the theme as well.
“We want to make it a fun hangout,” Williams said.
If the exhibit goes well, Williams and Royce expect to have more at the end of this semester and throughout the spring.
“Our parties’ goals (include) expanding our film and photo community and getting our work displayed,” Williams said. “All are welcome to come and support.”
“Other Realms” will take place Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. on 1604 Grove Ave. Apt. 4. The screening is free for all to attend.
