AFO (Photography)

Marsh received a work study job working in the Pollak building as an office assistant with Jon Sheridan,  an assistant professor of photography. Marsh hasn’t been feeling well and will be traveling home for Labor Day weekend to see her family, friends and boyfriend. She’ll be going to a music festival, Park Rock Fest, while at home in Maryland and plans to photograph her friend’s band. She said it’s been harder than she expected to make friends, but she’s keeping a positive attitude.

Rex Kennedy
Dance

Last Saturday night, Kennedy turned 19. He said he spent the day shopping in Short Pump and then later went out with his friends to Godfrey’s. In his classes, Kennedy was assigned a ‘big’ from the dance department, who is meant to serve as a mentor for freshmen. Kennedy’s big is Rachel Brady, a dancer who went to his high school in Denver, Colo. and knew from the American Dance Festival. Kennedy also tried out for the department’s Faculty Repertoire, and was one of six freshmen to be admitted. He will also be auditioning for senior shows this Friday, Aug. 31.

Andrew Kearns
AFO (Graphic Design)

Kearns received a work study job in the Graphic Design department’s media lab and injured his hand with an Exacto knife. He said it makes it really difficult for him to type and do his work in his Space Research class. He’s been to his drawing class once and said he already is not enjoying it. He said it’s mostly assignments and not enough instruction for someone like him, who doesn’t particularly like to draw. Kearns is considering joining the French Club and the Rotaract after exploring some of his options at the SOVO Fair last Friday.

Kate Rancka
Voice

Last Friday and Monday, Rancka auditioned for Commonwealth Singers, a VCU choir of between 45 to 50 students. The group often travels and Rancka is planning on traveling with the group next year to Canada. She also auditioned for Women’s Chorus and was admitted to the soprano section. She dropped her government class so she wouldn’t have to drive home or stick around campus for too long since all her other classes were during the day and her government class was in the evening.
