After shattering school and NCAA records VCU men’s basketball alum Bradford Burgess recently inked a professional deal with the Leuven Bears out of Belgium.
The Bears, from Belgium’s top division, will begin their season on Oct. 6.
“I’m blessed to have an opportunity to continue my basketball career with a quality organization in a good league,” Burgess said in a statement. “It took a lot of sacrifice and support from a lot of people, especially my parents and coaches, to get me to this point and I’m truly grateful for everything they’ve done for me.”
Burgess, nicknamed college basketball’s “Iron Man,” made 146 consecutive starts at VCU passing Patrick Ewing, Danny Manning and Steve Augmon on the NCAA’s all-time list.
He scored 1,684 points for the Rams, fourth on the school’s all-time list, while becoming just the third VCU player to notch 1,600 points, 700
rebounds and 200 assists alongside Kendrick Warren and Charles Wilkins.
With Burgess’ signing, all eight underclassmen to play under head coach Shaka Smart have signed
professional contracts. CT
