Carl Moniz, Georgia State:
Moniz went .667 from the plate in the Panther’s 3-1 week including a game winning, three-run homerun in Saturday’s contest against Hofstra.
Pitcher of the week
Seth Cutler-Voltz, VCU:
Cutler-Voltz went for a five hit, complete game shutout in the first game against Towson and is fifth in the CAA in earned run average with 3.24 runs allowed per game.
Rookie of the week
Michael Bass, UNC Wilmington:
Hit a grand slam that broke a tie in one game and the game winning RBI in another in the Seahawks sweep over Delaware.
Notes
– More than one third of the nearly 50 CAA games played this season thus far have been decided by just one run.
– All four of the top teams in the CAA swept their opponents this past weekend
– Droves of MLB scouts have been attending VCU games to get a look at red-shirt junior Joe Van Meter, who is being touted to be a pitcher in the major leagues.
– VCU is leading Hofstra in their all time series 22-3.
– Hofstra got swept this past weekend by Georgia State, but were on a four-game winning streak prior.
– Senior Robbie Andrews is tied for first in the CAA in saves with six; the entire Rams bullpen only achieved seven in the entirety of last season.
