RICHMOND- George Mason used a late offensive surge to push ahead of VCU at the half, 35-32.
Thanks to poor outside shooting the Rams have struggled on the offensive end but have played well enough on defense to keep pace.
The two teams played an incredibly even 20 minutes, with the only major difference coming from the three-point line where Mason was 3-6 while VCU shot a tough-luck 2-10.
Larry Sanders (Fort Pierce, Fla./Port St. Lucie) leads the Rams at the half with nine points and Joey Rodriguez (Oviedo, Fla./Lake Howell) scored seven.
VCU junior Jaime Skeen (Charlotte, NC/Wake Forest University) led the Rams with five rebounds; he also scored six points.
Ryan Pearson led the way for Mason with 13 points, freshman Luke Hancock contributed 11.
The winner of this game faces Old Dominion in the first semi final tomorrow.
