Gov. Timothy M. Kaine’s office said Friday 1,365 students graduated from state community college nursing programs last year, compared to 817 in 2002-03. Kaine credited the partnership between the Virginia Community College System and the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association with helping meet the demands for nurses.
Kaine said the state’s growing and aging population will require more than 20,000 nurses by 2020.
