MEN’S SOCCER
The Rams still have a chance to make the CAA Tournament field after a pair of 1-1 double-overtime draws against Georgia State and Towson this past week. The Panthers scored first in their game against the Rams, taking an early 1-0 lead in the 14th minute. However, VCU evened the score in the 82nd as Jorit Loehr (Bremen, Germany) scored his fifth goal of the season when the Georgia State keeper knocked down a shot, but couldn’t hold it, allowing Loehr to knock it into the left-hand corner. Against Towson, the two goals came just about a minute apart, with the Tigers scoring in the 63rd minute and Otavio De Luca (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Joao Paulo) answering with his first goal of the season in the 64th. VCU goalkeeper Andrew Dykstra (Woodbridge/Osbourn Park) made a combined eight saves in the two games. VCU is now 3-3-2 in the CAA and 7-6-2 overall.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Hofstra handed VCU its third consecutive loss Friday night, 2-1. The Rams jumped on top early after Laurel Pastor (Springfield/West Springfield) knocked home her eighth goal of the season off an assist from Samara Stephen-Dowd (Vienna/Oakton) in the 14th minute. However, the Pride answered with a goal in the 62nd minute to tie, and scored the decisive goal in the final minute to seal the deal.
