Planners have found the five local bands that will perform at the Monroe Park Festival this fall.
The top five bands – picked by VCU’s 40th Anniversary Entertainment Committee – beat out 268 other bands. The committee received 90,000 votes from the public.
The winners are The Taters, a ’60s-style rock and roll band; Becky Taylor and Open Fire, a local bluegrass quartet; Antero, a reggae group from Richmond; Unheard Concept, a hard rock band; and Earthtone, an acoustic hip/hop group comprised of students.
Although it’s the first time VCU has ever had an entertainment festival in Monroe Park, Bryan Brown, the lead member of the festival’s entertainment, is expecting a high turnout.
“The voting was open to the public, and luckily, they chose some really great music,” Brown said.
The bands will perform Oct. 25 at Monroe Park between noon and 5 p.m.
