Last Thursday, VCU’s VOX: Voices
for Planned Parenthood
(student
group on campus)
along with
about 400 other
concerned Virginians,
attended Pro-
Choice Lobby Day.
We were able to
overtake the General Assembly and
talk to a majority of our delegates,
urging them to stand up for choice in
their governmental decisions. It was
an incredibly empowering experience
with immediate results.

In fact, our presence even went
as far as to encourage the passing of
Senate Bill 155, which is a simple bill
that would have amended the Code of
Virginia to include “the use of FDA
approved methods of contraception
to prevent unintended pregnancy,
along with abstinence and disease
prevention” in
Family Life Education
programs.
It passed in the
House; however,
it did not pass in
the Senate.

Yet, if anything,
this proves that we
have far to go. Unfortunately, there
are still many bills being processed
that threaten to limit women’s access
to birth control and hinder our sex
education.

Therefore, I urge you to stand up
and show our government that we care
about their decisions regarding our
educational and reproductive rights
and most of all our bodies. We can
make a difference.
