Female soldiers are under represented and stereotyped, but the world has much to learn from them, said Laura Browder, professor of English, at Tuesday’s Elske v. P. Smith Lecture, “When Janie Comes Marching Home,” at the University Student Commons. Browder was the recipient of the lecturer award, which is given to a faculty member who expands the scope of research at the university, said Dean of the College of Humanities and Sciences, Robert Holsworth.

Staph infections a cause for concern for VCU athletics

Recent outbreaks of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, known as MRSA, have VCU athletic trainers urging VCU athletes and students to practice good hygiene. “You can tell an athlete, you can tell anyone, this is something that has the potential to cause serious infection,” head women’s athletic trainer Wendy Sheppard said.
