China admits to using executed prisoners’ organs in transplants
On Thursday, Deputy Health Minister Huang Jiefu spoke at a conference of surgeons in the southern city of Guangzhou in Beijing, China, and admitted that many of country’s human organs used in transplants are those of executed prisoners. “The current organ donation shortfall can’t meet demand,” Huang explained. Though China doesn’t disclose the number of people executed each year, Amnesty International reports that “at least 1,770 people were put to death in 2005.” However, those in need for a fresh organ may have a harder time in months to come with China’s announcement of “tighter oversight” of death-penalty cases, which legal experts say could reduce death sentences by a third.

Groundskeeper urinates on the dead
In Brooklyn, N.Y., Itomor Khaimov was stunned when he saw a man urinating on his grandmother’s grave Nov. 1. The man urinating was groundskeeper James Scott, 80, who told Khaimov that he was “an old man” and “couldn’t hold it.” When Khaimov demanded Scott to stop, Scott allegedly hit him and his dog with a rake. Scott was later arrested and charged with assault. Scott, on the other hand, denies having ever hit Khaimov and instead insists that he was the one attacked and furthermore, denies having urinated at all. “I would never disrespect my bloodline,” Scott, who claims that he is part Jewish, said. “I have respect for my race and all races.”
