Men’s Tennis a 10
The men’s tennis team, ranked 13th nationally, took down Louisville 4-2 Saturday at the University of South Florida for the team’s 10th win in a row. The win streak is the longest since the 2003-2004 season.
After succeeding the doubles match point, senior Francesc Lleal (Barcelona, Spain) defeated Damar Johnson at third singles 6-4, 6-3.

Junior Sergi Arumi (Barcelona, Spain) took down Jeremy Clark 7-6, 6-3 and sophomore Georges-Alexandre Israel (Marseille, France) won his match 6-2, 6-3 at the fifth spot. Damien Lacombe (Perigueux, France) secured the Rams’ fourth win with a 6-3,6-2 victory over Nicolas Howard.
On Friday VCU blanked the shorthanded South Florida 5-0 for their ninth straight victory.

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Phil Mickelson held off Tim Clark by two shots Sunday to claim The Masters title for the second time.
Arrington, Rogers set school records
FAIRFAX – Nikki Arrington (Midlothian High School) broke VCU’s discus record, and Ashley Rogers (Chesapeake/ Deep Creek High School) set a school record in the shot put.
Arrington posted a mark of 135 feet, topping the previous record of 133’11 1/4″, set by former standout Jolinda Smithson in 2000. Arrington also improved her personal best in the hammer throw with her third-place mark of 149’03”.
Rogers’ mark of 42’06” breaks the previous shot-put record of 41’11 3/4″ set by Fallon Wilson in 2004. Rogers now holds the indoor and outdoor shot-put records.
The VCU jumpers also had a good showing at the Mason Spring Open Invitational. Tanika Brown (Powhatan High School) earned first place in the high jump and her leap of 5’07” was four inches farther than that of the event’s runner-up.
The Rams return to action next weekend when they travel to Durham, N.C. to compete in the Duke Invitational.
Rams up ante at Duke Invitational
Junior Mariusz Mostrag (Krajnik, Poland) and distance runner Lukasz Matusiewicz (Warsaw, Poland) finished seventh and eighth in the 800- meter run respectively, both setting season-best times at the Duke Invitational Saturday.
Mostrag ran the 800m in 1 minute, 49.85 seconds and the 1500-meter in 3 minutes 50.82 seconds. Matusiewicz improved his time in the 800m with a mark of 1 minute, 50.85.
Sophomore sprinter Jackie Deshazo (Mechanicsville/Atlee High School) earned a top-10 finish in the 200m and set a season-best mark of 21.74. Junior James Frierson (Richmond/ Highland Springs High School) finished the 200m with a time of 21.83.
Jump specialist Davion Lambert (Richmond/Varina High School) finished in third in the long jump with a leap of 23’7.25″. Junior Brandon Argro (Richmond/ Henrico High School) improved his season-best mark with a jump of 21’9″.
George shows off for scouts
The men’s basketball team’s Nick George (Manchester, England) scored 16 points for the Norfolk Naval Shipyard Wednesday in the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament. The annual tournament provides scouts an opportunity to view prospective players for the NBA.
