Justices to revisit late-term abortion ban

WASHINGTON – The Supreme Court will consider reinstating a federal ban on what opponents call partial-birth abortion, pulling the contentious issue back to the high court on conservative Justice Samuel Alito’s first day.

Darwinism: Philosophy, not science

As a mentor of mine was telling me, there is no such thing as a worldview-less worldview. Darwinism is no exception. While evolution in and of itself does not infer anything about the existence or non-existence of a creator, Darwinism has no room for such folly.

Opinion in Brief

Brief

Michael Morales is supposed to be dead already, executed by lethal injection. He would be, but medical professionals – unlike the prison officials who usually handle this stuff – are having some ethical issues.

And who could blame them? Pumping poison into people for the sole purpose of executing them is not a job that allows you to go home with a smile on your face.

Thank God for the NBA Slam Dunk Contest

Not fair. That is what I first thought when my pick for the slam dunk contest, Andre Iguodala lost. Then I thought so not fair! And thoughts number three through 43 were pretty much the same. But then I simmered down, and I thought — thank God.

VCU offense falls short vs. Tigers

TOWSON, Md. – VCU’s defense was unable to stop Towson forward Dennard Abraham as he poured in 27 points to lead the Tigers to a victory over the Rams for the first time in the teams’ past 11 matchups.

The Rams managed to overcome a first half in which the offense struggled as well, shooting only 25 percent from the floor and scoring only one field goal over the 12 and a half minutes heading into halftime.

Turnovers plague Rams in home loss to Hofstra

Hofstra’s self-esteem was at an all-time high Friday as they cruised to an easy victory over VCU 58-43.

From the onset, the Rams looked out of sync and unprepared. VCU could not control the opening tip and committed the first of a season-high 29 turnovers as Michele Cosel (Mechanicsville/Atlee High School) dove into the announcer’s table attempting to recover a loose ball.

Rams victorious in home opener

On a day uncharacteristically warm for the month of February, VCU second baseman Scott Sizemore (Chesapeake/ Hickory High School) brought home the winning run when he found space in right field for a double with two outs remaining in the bottom of the ninth to lift the Rams past visiting Northwestern Fri.
