An adult moose was seen surfing a rain-swollen river in Norway on a large chunk of ice.
It’s not known whether the moose got caught on the ice accidentally or whether he took advantage of a chance for a ride along the Namsen River.
Witness Kjell Grannes had been watching the river from his home when the moose surfed by.
Grannes said he went to a bridge farther downstream, arriving in time to watch the moose fall into the water.
“Fortunately, it managed to make it over to land,” Grannes said, “and looked like it was in good shape as it ran up the bank and toward a housing development.”
Canadian finds his Sabine
A Canadian man who was writing to 3,700 Belgian women named Sabine in a bid to find a crush has succeeded.
Marc Lachance had been writing to everyone in Belgium with the name after falling for a Belgian Sabine while travelling in Cuba.
“But I didn’t find her by letter,” he said. “Her brother had heard about my search on the Belgian radio and told her the story.
“She was impressed by the efforts I made to find her and she tried to trace my phone number. That wasn’t easy at all, because I only left my e-mail address. She found my building company and they gave her my phone number.”
Lachance, from Quebec, met Sabine while on a day trip from their resort to Havana.
They spent the day together, but upon his return to Canada he realized he hadn’t asked for her full name and address.
“I was so happy she found me,” he said. “And she said she is still thinking about me. We had only but a very short moment on the phone but she promised to send me a large e-mail.
“She said she wanted me to show her country. If she does, I’m on the first plane to Belgium.”
Man fined for giving camera the finger
A man has been fined about $140 after he gave a speed camera the finger.
Simon Thompson, 41, gave the one-fingered salute when he saw the mobile camera as he drove home from work within the speed limit.
Half an hour later, two policemen who had been operating the device knocked on his door and handed him a fixed penalty notice for making offensive gestures.
“I accept what I did was foolish and it wasn’t my finest hour,” Thompson said. “But this shows the police have got their priorities completely wrong.
“I wasn’t giving the officers the finger, I was aiming my anger at the camera. I’ve got as much contempt for speed cameras as everyone else. I’m a careful driver. My license has been clean for ten years.”
Schoolgirls bare all for dance
A group of senior year schoolgirls have posed nude for a fund-raising calendar to save their graduation ball.
Students at Eitorfer Grammar School in Germany stripped for a calendar to raise money for their end of year ball – Europics.
The girls, aged 17 and 18, from the Eitorfer Grammar School in Eitorf, Germany, are now selling the $12 calendars to raise money for the end-of-year dance.
The girls came up with the idea after the school announced it did not have any money left to pay for one.
“I was not happy when I heard what the girls were doing,” Headmaster Werner Teubler said, “but you can’t control what they do in their free time.”
