At the end of October, The Commonwealth Times will be moving along with WVCW Radio and other student media to our new home at 817 W. Broad St., joining the ever-expanding ranks of Monroe Park Campus buildings that call Broad Street home.

VCU turned to the Broad Street corridor in the mid-1990s as a focus for future expansion after first being turned away from Oregon Hill by its vocal residents. Finally, seven years after the first VCU buildings opened on Broad Street in 1998, a vibrant new campus is taking shape.
Nearly nine months after Ramz Hall opened to students in January of this year at 933 W. Broad, a number of high-end eateries are opening on the ground floor of the building, bringing a refreshing taste of variety and some healthy competition to traditional college fare. A couple of retail stores are also in the mix, providing an urban shopping experience only steps away from campus, a feat unthinkable only two years ago.
As Broad Street continues to develop and student life improve, The Commonwealth Times at its new location will be in the heart of it all. It’s almost a shame that some of us will have less than four years here to enjoy the rewards.
