With hurricanes Katrina and Rita ravaging the Gulf Coast, food supplies throughout the nation’s food banks are running critically low. Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and the Central Virginia Food Bank’s shelves are bare. Thousands of Richmond children rely on the Food Bank for their daily nutritional needs.

With hurricanes Katrina and Rita ravaging the Gulf Coast, food supplies throughout the nation’s food banks are running critically low. Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and the Central Virginia Food Bank’s shelves are bare. Thousands of Richmond children rely on the Food Bank for their daily nutritional needs.

From Monday, Oct. 3, through the end of the month, The Commonwealth Times and VCU chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists will be accepting donations of non-perishable food for the Central Virginia Food Bank.

We will be accepting donations in two locations on the VCU Monroe Park Campus. The Student Media Center at 817 W. Broad St. will accept donations every weekday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. and there will also be drop-off box in front of Room 1149 in the T. Edward Temple Building at 901 W. Main St.

The Commonwealth Times is also offering free ad space to registered student organizations who donate 150 lbs. of usable food to the Central Virginia Food Bank. Bring a certified receipt to the Student Media Center at 817 W. Broad St. to apply for your free, quarter-page ad. Limit one advertisement per registered organization, normal requirements apply.
