Teacher evaluations under evaluation

In the wake of our current budget crisis, one would imagine that the semester-long paper shortage would cause VCU to carefully consider the thousands of sheets of paper that go into printing teacher-evaluation forms given at the end of each semester.

It should be duly noted that yes, VCU believes these evaluations are important enough to be mass printed.

We the people have a right to decide for ourselves

Once again, elected officials, out of touch with the current generation’s beliefs, lifestyles, and, most importantly, rights, are trying to determine what choices we will be allowed to make.

I am referring to the letter from Delegate Robert G. Marshall (R-Prince William) to VCU President Eugene Trani, as reported in the April 24 edition of The Commonwealth Times by staff writer Melissa Noble.

Students applying to VCU’s School of Graduate Studies now will receive a compact disc with a downloadable application instead of the traditional paper packet. Thanks to the latest Web site, students also can download the application from the Web.”If you have a hookup to the Web, the CD goes right to the Web.

Students walked in the Commonwealth Ballrooms and sat in the green foldout chairs, preparing to be recognized at the College of Humanities and Sciences Annual Awards Ceremony. Stephen D. Gottfredson, dean of the college, opened the ceremony acknowledging the achievements of the students and the faculty.

When students return to campus in the fall, three new administrative faces will be on campus to greet them – the assistant vice provost for diversity, the associate vice provost for finance, and the assistant vice provost for institutional research and evaluation.

Groundskeeper Jackson: keeping VCU clean

A day outside cleaning up VCU’s campus may not sound like fun, but Bobbi Jackson makes the best of it. She has been a groundskeeper at VCU for about two years. Recently she was promoted to supervisor.

“I like not having to work on weekends,” Jackson said.

Weapons explosion kills civilians

A cache of weapons exploded in Baghdad Saturday killing six people, according to the U.S. military, and 14, according to residents, during a protest against the United States. U.S Central Command officials said an unknown number of individuals fired an unknown incendiary device into the pile of weapons, causing the explosion.
