Rams stay consistent as preseason favorites

With all the hype surrounding the men’s basketball team this season, it’s only natural that the team would receive nationwide recognition as well as conference supremacy.

Meet the Press: Smart addresses the media

In his first press conference of the season, men’s basketball head coach Shaka Smart addressed the media, answering questions about the hype surrounding the 2014-15 campaign. Most importantly, Smart spoke about three uncertainties entering the season: senior leadership, player improvement on both sides of the ball and how his freshman fit into the equation early on.

Women’s volleyball heats up; pushes winning streak to five

VCU’s women volleyball team has won five straight matches, improving their overall record to 7-7. The Rams’ defeated Davidson College in both team’s Atlantic 10 conference opener on Sept. 27 as well as besting the College of William & Mary on the road on Tuesday, Sept. 23. On Sept. 19-20, the Lady Rams dominated their season home-opener, sweeping the competition 3-0.

Looking good, playing well equals student-athlete success

In March of this year, VCU’s athletic program unveiled a new logo for the second time in as many years, toward the end of the 2013-14 school year. The logo was not placed on VCU apparel until Aug. 16 when the Black and Gold Volleyball scrimmage served as the official start of the 2014-15 calander year and introduction of the logo on VCU team uniforms.

Rams basketball trains with SEALs

For the fourth straight offseason under head coach Shaka Smart, the men’s basketball team participated in the Navy SEALs training program led by head instructor John McGuire. In addition to men’s basketball, McGuire’s program welcomed other VCU teams into the fold: men’s and women’s soccer, women’s volleyball and women’s basketball.
