South African University students rejoin VCU Jazz

South African jazz musicians will perform side-by-side with VCU students Sept. 24 as part of a cultural exchange program with the university’s sister school KwaZulu-Natal University in Durban, South Africa.

Cross Country teams sprint to the finish line

VCU’s men’s and women’s cross country teams collectively started their 2014-15 season on the right track, both placing first overall in the Virginia State XC Invitational, the first meet of the season.

A call for diverse television

We are in the midst of a culturally critical era of television in both refreshingly positive and severely negative lights, and both are important to note. Always formerly known and ridiculed for being the lesser creative outlet to cinema, TV shows have been elevated to a much higher status due to a revelation of beautiful art direction and skilled writing and acting.

Virginia gubernatorial race a loss for both parties

Watching the gubernatorial election results trickle in last Tuesday night reminded me of that fact. Neither the governor’s race, nor the lieutenant governor’s race should have been this close, even with such uninspiring candidates. The fact that it was, however, says more about our electorate than it does about the candidates.
