Suicide is the second leading cause of death among college students, behind alcohol and drug overdoses. Twenty-four Virginia college students died from suicide in 2012, according to the Virginia Violent Death Reporting System.

VCU hosts state debate on birth control mandate
Virginia political leaders on Tuesday held a debate on the birth control mandate of the Affordable Care Act in the Academic Learning Commons. State Senator John Edwards, D-Roanoke, and Delegate Robert Marshall, R-Manassas, debated issues relating to House Bill 18, a bill introduced in the General Assembly by Marshall that would have allowed insurance companies to choose not to offer birth control coverage.

Sunday robbery occurred near campus

A victim reported an off campus robbery near 1208 W. Cary Street early Sunday morning. The incident occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m., but was not reported to police until 5:14 a.m., according to the VCU alert webpage.
